Grains of Sand

Grains of Sand

Like grains of sand
Settled in sea,
We rise and stand,
Over millennia we rub up
And down
The coastline,
Tumbled around
Some wash along the ocean currents
Grabbed along by the
Tumbling out to sea
Some settle, sucking down
Embedded by anemones
Roots and
Home for however long
It takes for tectonic removal
To strip bare ridges
And you’re left
Mingling around the waterway
Always free
Yet yearning for
conditional stability
