Daily Post: The Calm before the Glider’s Fate

The eery stillness before a storm… the pregnant pause where the air is so thick and void of all noise… captured.

Storm poised

On the surface all is still

Clear fluidity the finger on the lips of the great churn beneath

Roiling clouds

Build vastly

happening so quickly

pilot preparing to flee

them clean away

parachuting pilot lives life affirming adventure

while cabin plummets to a watery grave

with nothing but shards of fibreglass hull

seasoning the sea

wrested wings

flung out

halfway across the

shimmering cerulean steel-blue turquoise teal sea

lightness-lit from deep within

metamorphose into homeward bound flotsam

long after the storm

beyond the calm

scattered memories of the glider’s demise return

their more intrepid winch-launched pieces

drift upon the surf

land upon the shore

treasure to some

most will sink and drift spanning continents

Going further and longer than any other glider has gone

For a moment today, time stands still — but you can tweak one thing while it’s stopped. What do you do?

Photographers, artists, poets: show us STILLNESS.
